Playfulness in Storytelling Workshop
Date & time
31 October 2025 | 12.00-16.00
What's on offer?
There will be three storytelling sessions running on the day. Each 45 minute session is free to attend. The storytelling workshop lasts approximately 25 minutes, with an additional 20 minutes for feedback and to broaden conversations with parents about the value of promoting creative play for storytelling.
What's it about?
Play and storytelling are powerful tools for young children’s growth because they offer an engaging way for them to develop their critical thinking skills and make meaningful decisions within the new worlds that they invent. In this fun and interactive storytelling workshop, children aged between 4 and 7 years old will embark on a journey where their imagination takes the lead. They will curate a shared narrative alongside a storyteller to engage in pretence and nurture their creative expression through role-playing. Children are invited to co-author a captivating story by listening and developing each other’s thoughts to create characters, settings, and plots using objects and spaces in a multitude of ways to bring their stories to life. Much of children’s play with their peers takes place in early years settings, for parents, this will be an opportunity to observe their children take ownership over their own ideas. This workshop aims to provide an enjoyable opportunity for young children to put their problem-solving skills to the test. It also seeks to help parents to broaden their understanding of how they can use playfulness in their storytelling to empower children to experiment with a range of roles, rules, and relationships.
